Forgotten Territory was a weekly column of historic photos in the Northern Territory News which I curated from 2016 until 2019 supported by the collections of the Northern Territory Library, Northern Territory Archives Service, State Library of South Australia as well as other major collections and Facebook groups from around Australia. Who could forget Skateworld, the much-loved roller-skating rink on Progress Drive in Nightcliff? It was officially opened on 30 March 1979 by the Chief Minister, Paul Everingham. The only rink in the Northern Territory, it attracted 2000 people during its first two days of operation and became well known for its Friday night disco. Upon its closure in July 2006, owner Peter Beesley said  I have seen two to three generations of children grow up here . This image will be part of a new exhibition Lost Darwin at the Northern Territory Library, which opens on Wednesday 1 June at 5.30pm.
